Application Information

WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE A HARDWAX OIL OVER OTHER TIMBER FINISHES?

Hardwax oils are durable and easily maintained, German manufactured and developed to meet the specific requirements of Australian Timber.

High coverage rates up to 20 – 30m2 per litre depending on timber species. Compared to polyurethane and water base coatings, where you will only achieve 8 to 12 m2 per litre. Easy to apply 2 coat application system. Surface may be used with care after 24 hours. The application can be brushed, sprayed, rolled on, or applied by machine.

Equally, hardwax oils are micro-porous which allows the timber to breathe, yet creates a full body finish without creating a plastic skin on the surface as do other types of coating systems. This makes them the perfect choice for timber in the kitchen and bathrooms. Water resistant (not just water repellent like other coatings) perfect for humid areas. As they penetrate into the timber they fully protect the internal timber fibers, as well as the surface.

Hardwax oils are spot repairable, no need to re-sand to repair or replenish, simply cut back with a 240 grit paper and re-coat. As hardwax oils are formulated of all natural oils and waxes, the sanding dust is nontoxic and biodegradable. Since there is no aggressive sanding between coats, this allows the timber to build character. In Europe, they have been used for the protection and enhancement of timber for centuries.

Enhances the natural grain of the timber and will not flake, blister, peel or edge bond when applied properly. As there is no water in the product they do not “grain raise” on application. Hardwax oils tend to be non-yellowing, they work completely opposite to polyurethane and water base coatings which yellow over time with the strong UV light in Australia. Hardwax oils stay naturally clear and beautiful and non-yellowing with the help of the UV light.

Compared to Tung oil, Linseed and other natural oil finishes, hardwax oils are much more durable and resistant to food and water marks. They also enhance the grain and shine without needing to buff on several coats.

Fully compliant with the EU standards for VOC emissions, environment and sustainability and reflect state-of-the-art manufacturing and usage characteristics for both the trade and the end customer. Manufactured and processed with the least possible risk to humans and the environment.  They contain no pollutants, no aromatics and minimal amounts of the least aggressive solvents available. For this reason they are one of the only coatings that are certified food and toy safe. Recommended for those prone to allergies. They are also anti-bacterial, saliva & sweat safe, dirt resistant, heat resistant, and anti-static.

MAINTENANCE, with a simple maintenance coat of Evolution Object Oil, hardwax oils can be nourished. Object Oil will remove minor scratches and stains, prolonging the time between coats of hardwax oil on heavily used surfaces.

For CLEANING & CARE we recommend the official dumped & ditched Furniture Care spray bottle.
